The Questions? Why

Why does the wind blow
Churning the tempest in the sea?
A seedling nestles safe in the warmth of the dirt
Peacefully.
A grain of sand travels to the bottom of the ocean
Finding a harbor in the shell of an oyster.
Who told the oyster to keep that sand
Magically transforming it into a pearl so magnificent?
While we sit on a rickety bench in a park so calm,
Who told that leaf to fall down?
How is it known that a clown could do something so simple
As change the frown on a baby's face to a smile with a delightful dimple?
For some, the clown may be a fright, but where did we get the light in the night?
The eye can look for miles on end to see
Majestic mountain tops or endless road
How did the pupil know that it was to do so?
The answers assuredly can be scientifically explained away
But who told those differently to see it another way?
So many answers can add to the define
However none can explain what is simply divine.

Racing to the Dawn

Awakening to the light of the sun
I stretch to greet the dawn
Breathing in the breath of a new day
Configuring plans to act as I may

With each day there is new
To be content, remain stagnant
Neither a treasure
To encounter new things
So many remain
New adventures, untamed

Parenting

Being a parent is very surreal. You can imagine being one all you want but when you actually look at a replication of yourself there is both a wow and a whoa factor.

You know how you grew up, what you have learned and what you were taught. You know how you react, your mannerisms and quirks. To think that your mini-me, regardless the gender, is your reflection; yet so much different than you are. It's amazing, watching a child, your child or children grow. How they adapt, what they take in, how they react, what they give back.

There is a mixture of you and your ways in them, yet they are unique. Sometimes it can be the best or worst of both worlds. Or if you have more than one child, each child takes on different or similar traits as you.

It's surreal I tell ya, me a parent. Wow and whoa, yet they are mine and I am them. Give thanks.

Miles away

Caught up in thoughts

Eyes do not see

Mind tries to frame

Lost memories

Formulating chains

Endless stream of words

Sentences

Sometimes committing

grammatical offenses

Humming melodies

Of lyrics yet unheard

Remembering

Verses unwritten

Synchronizing plans

Capturing ideas

with paper and pen

Newness of Spring

Erasing winter blues
Enchanting charm lit
With bright natural hues
Sparrows
Singing
Lullabies and soliloquies
Attracting new loves the game
However cyclic
Never the same
Subsiding angst of March winds
Paving the path
To summer's heat
Nature's grand magnificence
None can defeat

Singular

Sometimes
She gets upset
Jealous even
Knowing it's a wasted emotion
Human part of her frailty
Her femininity
See
She's still single
Waiting
for the proverbial
One
Cloaked stranger
Elusive avenger
maybe he's locked away
Because crime pays
Or rather it keeps
Black families in chains
Separates the eligible men from
the sistars
Only trying to win
But then again
Maybe the one is already
linked up with another
But that don't really stop him either
Wanting their
Cake
Icing a
And the cherry too
Acting like they exclusive too
With you
But they're lying
Leaving her wondering
Why
She can't see him
When she wants
To
He's home with his family
While she's sitting watchin' Scandal
lonely
Then there's the other one
Who can't make up his mind
Cuz he got baggage
just like you
He says and does all the right things
Thinks of you often
But not enough to call her wifey
Just when y'all laying up
Booing you up
Thinking they're really an item
But he's frontin cuz
He's just not
that into you
So when she see's people coupled up
She can't stunt
She's hating a little
but then
She realizes her worth
It's more than settling for some
BS
Or even stressing
Over what she thinks somebody else has She's gonna stay content being she
Keeping herself company
Staying happily single
But every once in awhile
It won't hurt
For her to mingle
