9/30 - Tipping Point

They say, opinions are like azzholes ... everybody's got one

Well, 

Everyone has a heart too

Everyone has the ability to be compassionate

Everyone has a brain, filled with thoughts ... good and bad

Just imagine if everyone used their powers for good

For the good of everyone else

Some would say, that's a very utopic idea.

And then there would be the ones that say, where's the balance if everyone is doing good for everyone else.

Imagine that. Where's the balance in the bad? In judging? In not being a humanitarian? In not being empathetic? Huh

Does your heart feel
Does your heart feel
Does your heart feel ...

heavier or lighter on your scale?

What's the tipping point?

Phew, where to begin

I didn't think in 2015

We'd still be trying to keep King's dream

Growing up, back in the day

Seemed like the future was something

We all wanted to belong to

So many things in the past
Thought we'd get past

Yet, some people wanna forget

The others, well they try

But every day it keeps coming back

All this religion

Ain't nobody saved Yet?

Where did the souls go

The ones that paved these roads

What happened to humanity

One could say, gone to INSANITY

It's crazy to think, to say, to do, or to be

Just another human be-ing

We're passing strangers, things

Getting stranger by the day

When we get too close

There's no words left to say

Just throw up your hands and holler

I wanna think, hope, pray for a better tomorrow

But then I realize, that's what our parents said

So what do we tell our children

In all this strife and sorrow

Things have got to get better

Or there will be no future, tomorrow

Times, they are a 'changin
Winds are blowin' in all directions
Cross-section, interchanging alignments
Frequencies pitched higher
Are you tuned in
Or are you turned off
There is no synching
When the time has been rearranged
Keep holding on to the past
Ways of thinkin'
You'll blink twice
Then find you're sinking
Rush to the surface for air
Only to find it's stale
It's acrid, full of hate, fear and confusion
It's not an illusion
It's fate
It's the head of a snake
Backed into a corner
Only way out
Retaliate
Attack the attacker
Bite the provoker
Release the venom
Held back in wait
The only fear
To fear itself
Is hate

I know nothing of war
I cannot pretend
to know the sound of bombs
outside my door
Empty streets lined
with bodies and mortar shells
I know nothing
of looking down the barrel of a gun
targeting
a presumed enemy
I cannot see that far
to accomplish the task
of pulling a trigger
Not in my hands
shall the blood of another
stain me
I do not know
the justifications of war
is it for land,
for oil,
for money?
Or
is it to protect
the lessor,
the weaker,
or continue
a reign of power?

Although I know nothing of war,
I am not immune
to it ...

It's not just about Trayvon. 
His murder was a catalyst. 
It's not just about Emmit Till. 
His murder was a catalyst. 
It's not just about the Jena 6 or Rosa Parks. 
It's not just about ...

Ramarley Graham, Arthur McDuffie, James Byrd, Amadou Diallo, Sean Bell, Yusef Hawkins, Oscar Grant, Willie Turks, George Jackson, Derrick Jones, Martin Luther King Jr, Corey Brown, Henry Glover, Alonzo Ashley, Reginald Doucet, Troy Davis, Kenneth B Walker, Michael Griffith, Bernard Monroe, Malcolm X, Khiel Coppin, James Craig Anderson, Roger and Dorothy Malcom, Henry Smith, Stephon Watts, Rekia Boyd, Shaima Alawadi. 

The list goes on and on and on. 

When will it END?

We don't need anymore catalysts, wake up calls, walking/driving while black, stop and frisk, 500 more years.

This is about disenfranchisement, economic inequality, sub-standard living, not receiving a quality education, higher rates of unemployment,  highest rate of incarcerated individuals, too many single-parent households.

Children in Chicago killing each other, for what? Yeah this is about that too.

It hurts. I'm tired.

We're all tired of fighting the same struggle day in and day out to be recognized ...

as H U M A N S

We haven't received reparations,  the Japanese did,  the Jews did, those in the Middle East have. I, we, they are just as human as everyone else. Wouldn't you be just as upset if all you hear and see are your brothers and sisters dying at your feet, down your street, in your city, their town, our world?

There is no justice,  there's Just Us.
