All i want 2 HeaR

hectic ramblings
whirling all around
dizzying chaos
abounds

the clock continues to chime
as the seconds steadily
wind down time
expected sunrises
and predictable glowing sunsets

seasons change
fall back
spring ahead
meridians remain the same
lats and lons never change

life and death
and the time in between
how often do you do
the unpredictable things?

take a break from
your everyday
routines

sometimes it's good to hear
three simple words
to make everything
that is shattered in your world
so clear and easier to piece
back together

simpler to hear the joy in
children's laughter
allows your eyes to
capture the clarity
in the midst of the cloudy haze

from the lips of
someone so dear
all i really want
to hear
is . . .
I . . .
Love . . .
you.
sentirme, mi corazón está escuchando

Leap of Faith

Drifting
between
what is right
what may be
wrong.
Finding
Not fitting
in the niche
where one
belongs.
Listening
to voices
seldom
heard.
Wanting
to be
forewarned
instead of
misunderstood.

How does one know
which choice to make?

Which chance to forsake?

When to await
karma's fate?

Traveling roads
for destinations
unknown.
Wrong turns
made
at the fork.

Decisions,

choices,

destiny

or fate.

Human,
born to make
mistakes.
Lessons
learned,
accept
what's beyond
the gate.

Only locks
left
unturned,
bind
chains
of regret.

Ponder
a short while,
step forward.

Take a leap
of faith.

Father's Day 2014

My youth were raised in a single parent household ...

I am a woman, a mother, the nurturer, the gentle touch, the soft spoken voice of reason. Sure, I've been the disciplinarian, the breadwinner, the household repair person, the lawn care provider and many other roles that may have at one time been gender assigned. But one thing I am not, is a man. I will never be a father. I didn't teach my sons to stand up and pee, I couldn't possibly understand what it's like to be a he. I haven't taught them how to shave and I learned to tie a tie by practice. I will not ever be as strong as a man nor will I pretend that I can. Sure, I may wear pants, but with a feminine stance. I am only one half, the X, he provides the Y and determines the sex. It takes us two to create a youth and when the one day comes around a year, I'm going to give him his just due. I'll not take this time to steal his shine. I'll not add a tag to pin to his coat. I'll not take away his masculine energy. I will promote him and acknowledge those men that do. They fill the role that their supposed to. He cares for his seed and teaches them the way.  I give him all his props this and every other Father's Day!!!

Wishing all the fathers and father figures out there taking care of, providing proper guidance to and raising their youth (or taking on the responsibility for another man) a Very Happy Father's Day. Bless⬆

4/30 - Lune

4/30

From NaPoWriMo.net - "Today’s optional prompt is to write a lune. A lune is a sort of English-language variation on the haiku, meant to better render the tone of the Japanese haiku than the standard 5-7-5 format we all learned (and maybe loved) in elementary school. There are a couple of variants on the lune form, but just to keep things simple, let’s try the version developed by Jack Collum. His version of the lune involves a three-line stanza. The first line has three words. The second line has five, and the third line has three. You can write a poem that consists of just one stanza, or link many lune-stanzas together into a unified poem. Happy writing!"

Many black folk
think, we're not worthy of
Greatness, yet are.

Love's splendor is
often languished by one's wanting
Something other than.

To the Edge

I went to the edge
At the shoreline
Where the ebbing tide
Met the dry earth
Crouching down
Then leaning forward
I peered over the edge
Careful not to get wet
I teetered on the edge
With just enough lean
I saw it
My reflection
Water mirroring me
My face
On the edge
There I slightly glanced
toward the horizon
I was peering at the edge
Seemingly endless the expanse of water
I could see forever
Then I looked back
And caught my eyes looking at me
In them
I saw forever at the edge
Straightening just enough
To not fall backward
I placed my elbows on my knees
And balanced
There on the edge
I raised my head and balanced
My eyes on the horizon
Like the bubble does on a leveler
Leveling my balance
I didn't waiver
I didn't teeter
Neither forward
So as not to get wet
Nor backward
So as not to fall
I was there on the edge
Of the horizon
The edge of the water
The place where the earth met
The edge of forever
And there
I was balanced

WAR: Weapons Aren't Resources

WAR: Weapons Aren't Resources
By Sharmane Iamibe

I know nothing of war
I cannot pretend
to know the sound of bombs
outside my door
Empty streets lined
with bodies and mortar shells
I know nothing
of looking down the barrel of a gun
targeting
a presumed enemy
I cannot see that far
to accomplish the task
of pulling a trigger
Not in my hands
shall the blood of another
stain me
I do not know
the justifications of war
is it for land,
for oil,
for money?
Or
is it to protect
the lessor,
the weaker,
or continue
a reign of power?

Although I know nothing of war,
I am not immune
to it ...

A Life in Motion

I am vulnerable to my emotions
I am not a cold-hearted soul
Roaming this already dark earth
Choosing to use my powers for good
Putting forth great effort to honor the code
"Do unto others as you would have them do unto you"
This world is full of negative energy
Being blocked forcefully with positivity
Many choose to reflect, deflect and project
Away from their light
It is in there, within each of us
Embrace it and shine
Emoting does not make one weak
It makes you alive, a life ... living

WordplaY

There's a
child-like curiosity
peaks with intensity
Whenever you're around
Just wanna sit and listen
question with some
predictability
But really it's infatuation
with your mentality
How the words are framed
conjugated verbally
Pronounced annunciation
Impeccably melodic
word play
Speak and spell
under your spell
bound
magically lost in
dictionary pages
turning
Forming
and re-framing
new syllabic illustrations
I wanna pick up
Letters
Puzzling them
Pieces scattered
Then brought back together
Imagination
I
Image
A
Nation
Of non-speakers
Linguistically patterning
soundscapes with premeditated
Shapes
Hieroglyphics passed on
Through space and time
bridging universes
Verbally
Speaking only with gestures of
strokes outlined with deep tones
Thread creating imprints in one's
psyche defy me words
Playing hide-n-seek between
Lines I speak
momentarily voiced
Echoing in vibrato
Tenor and falsetto
Through parted lips yelling
A whisp to her
Ears ringing with bells
toying with emotional
High pitched low timbres
Word sound not lost
But found in my sandbox of abc's
I frequently find joy here
In my world play
Displaying painted canvas
Of vibrant characters all across
azul and midnight blue sky
Let's play a game
You first, eye  write

Parenting

Being a parent is very surreal. You can imagine being one all you want but when you actually look at a replication of yourself there is both a wow and a whoa factor.

You know how you grew up, what you have learned and what you were taught. You know how you react, your mannerisms and quirks. To think that your mini-me, regardless the gender, is your reflection; yet so much different than you are. It's amazing, watching a child, your child or children grow. How they adapt, what they take in, how they react, what they give back.

There is a mixture of you and your ways in them, yet they are unique. Sometimes it can be the best or worst of both worlds. Or if you have more than one child, each child takes on different or similar traits as you.

It's surreal I tell ya, me a parent. Wow and whoa, yet they are mine and I am them. Give thanks.

Miles away

Caught up in thoughts

Eyes do not see

Mind tries to frame

Lost memories

Formulating chains

Endless stream of words

Sentences

Sometimes committing

grammatical offenses

Humming melodies

Of lyrics yet unheard

Remembering

Verses unwritten

Synchronizing plans

Capturing ideas

with paper and pen
